Clean Cities Energy &
Environmental Justice Initiative

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is leading a pilot for selected Clean Cities Coalitions to engage in activities that transform communities and equitably grow the national impact of the U.S. Department of Energy’s efforts. This includes Justice 40 efforts to ensure that 40% of the benefits of federal investments are accrued by disadvantaged or underinvested communities. We provide technical assistance, capacity building support, training, facilitation, templates, resources, and targeted outreach to educate NREL staff, subcontractors, and Clean Cities coalitions. Our team advises on how to design and implement projects focused on Environmental Justice (EJ) communities, how to identify barriers and solutions for equitable access to alternative fuel vehicles and clean transportation, and how agencies can form long-lasting relationships with EJ communities.
